Don’t Hide That Aztec Pride

SDSU alum Mayor Jerry Sanders today announced that he is declaring Thursday, March 18, “Red & Black Day” in San Diego to honor the San Diego State University Aztecs’ first-round NCAA tournament games.

SDSU’s women’s and men’s basketball teams both won their respective Mountain West Conference tournament championships in Las Vegas last weekend, gaining each a slot in the NCAA “March Madness” basketball tournament.

The men’s first game will be on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. vs. the University of Tennessee Volunteers in Providence, RI. The women will match up against the University of Texas Longhorns on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Mayor Sanders is encouraging San Diegans to root on the team by wearing red and black, SDSU Aztec colors, on Thursday.

“With about 100,000 SDSU alumni in San Diego, seeing our teams in the national tournament is a huge source of local pride,” Sanders said. “We want the teams to know that all of San Diego is rooting them on to victory.”
